snow time

After looking outside to gauge the snow accumulation/driving situation, I cut short my day to work at the gallery by a couple of hours and got in a little hike before dark.  Getting out there on foot is way better than driving in this stuff, though there have been a few more inches since I was out, so hiking may be a different story tomorrow.

You are safe, tree. Don't worry, no one will ever steal you.  This is the second lock I found wrapped around a tree.

snow,sky

The snow was prettier yesterday- still clinging to the trees.  It was also at least 20 degrees colder and my mittens weren't about to come off to take pictures. I took the camera along this afternoon, hoping to catch the sunset.

 Snow crystals on the creek.

Looks like the bike rider on the trail before me remembered to duck.

white on white

I went a little overboard with the pictures of snow.  Last year we had so little, and this new snow isn't supposed to last long. It's so nice having these trails so close to home.

These pine trees had a comical look with the way they leaned this way and that from the weight of the snow.

Williamstown Bridge and the Ohio River in the distance.  Click on the picture to see it better.

I met a runner on the trail.  Before that it was just my tracks and the deer's.  We had a little talk, trying to find out why we looked familiar to each other.  She goes to the Y too, so that must be it.  But she told me now that she works day shift she goes at five in the morning so I'm definitely not seeing her now. Then she runs for an hour after work and used to take a spinning class in the evening at the Y until her husband bought her a trainer thingy for her bike so she could do it at home.
Geez.

This looks like bittersweet.  I read that it is considered invasive around here and that the weight of it can bring down branches.  Well this branch was down, alright.

I don't know what these shrubs are. I noticed they held onto the snow more than anything else.
On my way home now.  I've already been lapped by the runner.  I'm just walking.

north country trail

I spent a lot of time taking pictures inside today so I thought I'd get outside and do the same.  Really, I just wanted to get in a hike in the snow.  We've had so little of it this year.  This is one of the trails near my home-  part of the North Country Trails.  We're lucky to have several trails nearby.
I noticed the snow piled up on the fungus on this tree.  Looked like it was served up on plates.

End of the trail.
